I used to think I was never gonna be a 5.12 climbe

I used to think I was never gonna be a 5.12 climber. It felt so far out and when I attempted the grade on top-rope, it seemed way too hard.
Now, I send 5.12s on a regular basis. It baffles me that I once thought this was impossible.
So what changed?
Well I’ll tell you what didn’t change:
⚡️My strength.
⚡️My power.
⚡️My training.
🧗🏽‍♀️ My climbing barely changed.
🧠What did change was my beliefs.
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the physical body in climbing, especially when you’re trying to accomplish challenging feats like crimping tiny holds and powering through reachy moves.
But the fact is, your body is 3rd in COMMAND!
(Yep, NOT EVEN 2nd)
Your body takes orders from thought 💭
But guess what?
Thought takes order from what you believe 💡
What you believe about yourself and dictates what you are capable of.
If you believe you can’t climb 5.12, your body will listen and vice versa.
You are capable of climbing harder grades than you could imagine, without training more.
When you identify and shift your beliefs and you will find massive breakthroughs in your climbing.

Does your mind control or do you control your mind

Does your mind control or do you control your mind?
Last week I climbed up possibly one of the most aesthetic towers in the world.
Though the route is very easy & 2/4 pitches are easy Aid climbing, there is a big mental element that is required.
There is a feature on the route called the Diving Board with a short 1’ wide walkway leading up to it. The walkway drops to a couple hundred of sheer rock on either side, completely unprotected aside from the anchor your belayer is attached to.
I remember telling my climbing partner that everyone seemed to be talking up the diving but I really wasn’t worried.
Prior to the trip, my climbing partner had attempted the route and despite his capability as climber, he backed out due to fear.
I later came across another experienced climber who talked up the plank, validating that it’s a scary maneuver.
When my partner & I took a trip to scout out the rock conditions due to recent rain. When asked about my nerves, still, I looked up at the route I said, “I’m not worried about it.”
Why would I fear for the future when I’ve already decided it’s within my capacity?
When I stood before the diving board, I looked and said, “Okay I get why people get scared.”
I paused.
Staring at 10 short feet extending before me that felt like a mile, my earlier joke about how I used to backflip across a 4” balance seemed to not apply. Why did these few steps seem so far?
I didn’t hesitate more than a moment.
I slowly walked across the plank,
Not in avoidance of fear,
But in joy and peace.
And it is because I learned how to WATCH my fears instead of FEELING my fears.
In the past, I might’ve let fear invade me.
Because I cared so much about success I would’ve felt crushed by the idea of failure.
Through years of work on my personal mindset, I’ve learned how to own my mind and NOT let my mind own me.

Climbing should feel like fun. Climbing should be

Climbing should feel like fun.
Climbing should be intriguing. Make you curious. Make you feel strong in the face of challenge. Make you feel excited.
What most people don’t realize is that climbing is not about the climbing itself.
In the end, it doesn’t matter if we can can climb 5.12 or 5.13 or 5.14.
What will matter is how much climbing was a cage for you…or a springboard.
You can’t escape from a cage your don’t know you’re in.
& you can’t escape from a cage you don’t want to escape from.
‼️So ask yourself:
- Do I really enjoy my relationship with climbing?
- Does climbing leave me in a positive, radiant state afterward? Or do I feel more often dissociated, disappointed, anxious, frustrated, or unemotional afterward?
- Do I really like where I am in climbing (& life) or am I ready for change and growth?
- Does climbing burden me or serve me?
- At the end of a good week of climbing, do you feel perfectly happy with your life? Or does something else still nag at you like a job you don’t want to wake up to the next day, a shitty money situation, or a unfulfilling relationship/status?
When you answer these, you may notice that climbing is not serving you.
Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with climbing and climbing will always be part of your best life.
🧗🏽‍♀️ We just have to consciously stepping in and ensure that climbing is, in the end, making our lives better!
🔱 My mission is not to just help you break through mental barriers.
That’s part of what I do with coaching clients but most importantly,
I help you use climbing
as a tool for
healing anxiety/pressure,
breaking limiting beliefs that are holding you back in your life,
and stop feeling stuck in the same cycles that seem to repeat.

I think there’s a stereotype that we only deal w

I think there’s a stereotype that we only deal with fear on the wall if we show explicit signs of nervousness.
But fear in climbing shows itself in different ways for different people.
- I know some climbers who can’t relax on the sharp end. Their hearts race and palm sweat, and limbs shake when they clip their draws.
- I know some climbers who seemingly charge fearlessly but stress themselves to death in the moments before falling
- Some climber are wicked strong and send hard but carry an anxiety with them anytime they’re projecting something
- And some climbers are “good” at leading but don’t actually LOVE leading because falling felt like failure, incompetence, or being not good enough.
For years, I was the latter. And for that reason, I never pushed my grades. I feared failing SO MUCH that I avoided grades that challenged me.
It could’ve been okay if it weren’t for the fact that I still got anxious to lead, hated if there were people watching, and didn’t love the process.
On top of it, I felt like I didn’t really belong in the climbing community because I wasn’t projecting like they did.
I’m here to remind you that it’s okay to have fear.
But instead of letting it stay there, you have to work to process and release that fear.
Fear directly affects our climbing. It influences our strength, endurance, precision, and most importantly, enjoyment on the wall.
Wouldn’t you love to…

* Find more joy in the process of climbing,
* Stop feeling nervous to lead,
* & Break through fear of failure?

Did you know that your fears or struggles around love are exactly what your purpose is all about?
Almost everyone I’ve met confuses their vocations with their purpose,
but it’s actually the most common struggles in your life
that actually give you purpose…
like relationship struggles🌄
I’m seeing more people than ever admit to the idea that we each have a trauma, whether that’s a big trauma or small one. This is a great thing.
More and more, each of us are noticing that we all have a core fear of loss 💔
At the same time, noticing a belief is one thing, but changing your belief is another.
And I’m no better. I sing Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” at the top of my lungs 😝 and have to remind myself the mantra “You are who you’ve been looking for.”
What if you started treating your fear of loss like a mission to overcome?
Your purpose is in your relationships.
It’s in that scary possible feeling of abandonment.
Do you hold on to relationships and chase the next one to find security from the feeling of aloneness?
Or do you avoid closeness, avoid trust, to prevent any possibility of abandonment ever happening again?
When you actively try to NOTICE these thoughts and SHIFT these thoughts, you will finally begin to FALL IN LOVE with yourself💫

Someone who values you, respects you, appreciates you.

Not sure how a month of the snowboarding went by so fast but after…
🎿 10 independent resorts
🏂 16 days of riding
🛤️ 2,300 miles of driving
🗺️ 5 changes of plans
🚌 1 RV sparking like a firecracker
🥶 3 zero degree days
all I have to show for is this 180° that I can finally land🙃
Half kidding✨ many memories were made and my day 1 homies have become the sickest ski squad. Jiraiya wants to go big or go home and is crushing 360s. @isabelle.robledo flies down the mountain and over jumps with a fearlessness that always leaves me wondering if she’s truly that ballsy or just not thinking it through. And Tati…out of nowhere, is an advanced skier flying thru the trees and trying baby jumps. And @nomadswithapurpose may not be going biggest on the slopes, but she keeps us wildly entertained by suddenly changing the direction that we’re driving on a consistent basis.
