A dream come true is an understatement.
Climbing the Grand is something I’ve been thinking about for 3 years and have been planning for close to a year.
A lot of people climb the Grand. And I knew I could probably get up the Owen Spaulding without needing any new skills but I had it in my head that I really wanted to climb the Exum.
To me, climbing the Grand had very little to do with the physical feat. It was a test of ultimate mind and body competence, confidence, and determination.
6 months ago I didn’t know how to trad lead, build a natural anchor, simul-climb, or short-rope.
At my worst, I wanted to climb the Grand to prove something to myself. At my best, climbing the Grand was a challenge to tackle a long series of learning curves despite the overwhelm and not just climb this mountain, but also lead my group from a state of peace, confidence, and joy.
It was everything I imagined it’d be and more…as in, WAY more painful than I thought it’d be. A little sad that it’s over but I know that its just the beginning of endless more mountain adventures that lie ahead!

Just an unedited photo dump from the last few months I’ve spent in Lander and a reminder that everything in your life DOES happen for a reason.
I was pretty overwhelmed and confused for a while in the months following my TEDx talk but I’m finally coming into a space of peace, joy, harmony, and a fulfillment that I haven’t felt in a while, if ever.
I’m remembering that there is an order to the chaos—every event, person, and moment that arrives in your life happens exactly as it is supposed to.
Make some shifts, take some leaps, go after what you want despite the uncertainty. You’re always supported when you choose purpose over fear.

So I finally sent 12a. This time last year, I set the goal to send 12a. At the time, I’d only ever sent 11b and I really didn’t think I could ever climb anything in the 12 range.
It took me so long to accomplish this goal, the send didn’t exactly carry the weight I thought it would.
Maybe it was the fact that it wasn’t really that hard.
Maybe it was the feeling that 12a is mostly a walk in the park for the average Lander climber.
Or maybe it was awareness that after all these years on my journey, I know it’s not about the WIN.
I’ve had a bad habit of achieving. It’s always been so idealized to see others succeed and for as long as I can remember, my entire life revolved around chasing the next WIN.
7 year old me needed to WIN on the soccer field,
10 year old me needed to WIN on the uneven bars,
14 year old me needed WIN my surf tournaments.
Then 16 year old me learned how to lead climb…
and for some reason, on the wall nothing else mattered. When I got on the sharp end, I had tunnel vision and a heart full of joy.
I didn’t feel like I needed to prove myself…until I did again.
Climbing in a gym started pushing me to feel like I needed to be better at climbing to prove my worth.
Last year in St George, I remember feeling so tired of training & training & training and never feeling like I was “good enough” until one day I realized that it wasn’t the climbing that made me feel that way.
When I healed my programmings and trained my mind from the inside out, I started carrying much less weight up the wall.
I was lighter & freer.
That’s why I created Flow State Warriors, my mindset training program for peak performance….
Because the CRUX,
the BARRIER,
the OBSTACLE
is YOU.
Long story short, it was profound moment for me to top out and not feel this massive sigh of relief or radical triumph.
In fact, it felt pretty lackluster…but I felt the freedom of acceptance that I never used to feel.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll never stop pushing my edge (so where’s that 12b now???)
…But I think all arenas of high performance (sports, entrepreneurship & creativity) are a blessing of passion
& opportunity for growth.

April 1st, 2015 - I sit on a concrete driveway under the Southern California sunshine while Mom piles the last few things into our new home. The home’s doorframe gives way to a living room that is also a kitchen, dining room, and three bedrooms and to the right of that room are a driver’s and passenger seat with a loft overhead. “We’re all set,” Mom announces & we roll away from the house behind us. Mom and Dad said 5 months, then it’ll be back to a new rental…April Fools, it was 5 years…then 6 years…then 7 years.
Turns out, you can’t take the nomad out of a girl.
Since I was 14, I have never stayed anywhere longer than 3 months, and 90% of the time, it’s only a few days.
We really tried to give it up.
I lived on forest service roads in Bend OR while my dad looked tried to relocate.
It didn’t work out.
We tried to settle down in a house in Silverthorne CO where 5 of the 7 of us all picked up jobs.
It didn’t work out.
And in fall of 2020, my family was given the opportunity to rent a house near Flathead Lake, MT.
And I hated it.
For the first year, every day spent in the house had me swinging between depression & extreme stress because of the pressure I put on my business so I could get out of that house.
And then something happened….well actually a lot happened…
For the first time in my life, I experienced Acceptance…
When I returned home, I didn’t hate it anymore. In fact, I started to love how the bald eagles soar outside the living room, how the lake ices over, and how once in blue moon, the mission mountains poked out from the clouds. Though boring, I liked the simple life full of simple people doing simple things like going to the same bar with the same live music on the same Wednesday nights.
In a perfectly choreographed dance, as soon as I learned gratitude, the universe offered an out.
Life is bizarre, but so perfectly architected there is really no doubting it.
I’m overjoyed to be heading back on the road today but I’m also happy to say I no longer hate this little town in Montana. In fact, I’ve never been more grateful for a place because it pushed me to finally face my fears & go after what I really wanted.

In February of 2021, I got it in my head that I was going to give a TEDx talk one day. Not a question, but an absolute knowingness—like the evident fact that 2 + 2 = 4. Little did I know that “one day” would be precisely one year from then.
As the quietest, most shy kid you ever would’ve met, for some odd reason, I’ve had a vision of speaking on stage for since I was only 10 or 11…but for almost a decade, I continued to stay quiet.
See, I don’t really think we find our Soul’s Purpose. I think our Soul’s Purpose finds us, but only when we have honed our gifts, pursued our karmic growth, and faced our shadows enough to be ready for it.
Looking back at the 365 days from the birth of this idea to the manifestation, I’m mesmerized by the bittersweet symphony, like a beautiful snowflake born from cold storm.
It feels like the universe tried to teach me a decade of knowledge in one year.
In August, I became so overwhelmed with frustration about life as a whole that when I saw TEDx applications open up in one of my favorite towns on earth, I took massive imperfect action on something that was previously petrifying…
Despite the joy of the opportunity, the months that followed were an equal chaos, between life struggles & the expectation to do the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do which was to believe that my voice mattered.
From the outline to the 100s of hours practicing the talk from start to finish, at every phase I felt gut-wrenching shame that it was not enough. I was not enough. Stories don’t matter, it needs more value.
I knew all along that THIS was obstacle, not the speaking.
I had a mission to fulfill. So I daringly faced the obstacles anyway.
By the time I stood on the stage to speak, there was no more doubt or fear or shame.
In the end, it was all very simple: to express the most authentic story possible.
